Jason Hall

General Manager Sales

​Despite living and working in various places around the world since he was a kid, one thing has stayed constant for Terra Cat's new GM of Sales, Jason Hall – Caterpillar.

As a youngster, Jason lived in multiple places internationally, as his father was involved in the construction and mining industry. But invariably they returned to Canterbury as a "home base".

Eventually, the Halls moved to NSW where Jason's dad worked for the former Caterpillar dealer, Gough & Gilmour. The apple didn't fall far from the tree, with Jason's first job being with the same company as a sales cadet.

"I've now spent 29 years working with Caterpillar dealers; it's the only industry that I ever worked in."

Twenty-one of those years were with Gough & Gilmour, then with WesTrac when the dealership changed hands. Included in that period was a three-year stint in China, working as the dealership's mining General Manager.

Most recently, Jason and his family lived in Colombia for seven years, where he was Vice President for sales and marketing for the Colombian dealership, Relianz.

"We really liked living there. It was hot, humid, and a big change from Australia, but we enjoyed our time living in Barranquilla, on the Caribbean coast," he says. "I've been lucky to have lots of opportunities over my working life, and what I've also learnt is to never say 'no' to an opportunity."

It was that 'say yes' mindset that also opened the door for Jason to return to Christchurch as Terra's new GM of sales. Having watched New Zealand's transition from the Gough Group to Terra Cat, Jason was impressed with the company's enthusiastic culture and positive outlook.

"There's a lot to learn; I have a lot of experience in the mining industry, but I am very excited at the opportunity to engage in the key industries that we serve."

"New Zealand's construction and forestry industries represent fantastic opportunities for us and I'm really looking forward to meeting our customers – many of whom are owner-operators – to better understand what drives value for their businesses.

"I understand Caterpillar, the machinery, the network, and how dealerships works, but there's a lot to learn about the people and industries, and how we can work together to deliver excellent customer service."

Jason is married with two children aged eight and six, and spends most of his spare time with them, as well as trying to get outdoors as much as possible.
